Black Oxide on Canvas

48 x 60 inches

Death of Chimes II has been made from strips of raw canvas to show the fragmented identity of a woman and how she changes her ways of living according to the needs of the society. The act of using black oxide on the canvas holds similarities with creating a ‘Rangoli’ (Traditional Indian decoration and patterns). ‘Rangoli’ is usually done by women at the entrance of the house as a sign of sacred welcome. Here, the portrait acts as the vigilant protector of the self and the home.
